Scripture: Acts 7:
33 "Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.
48 "However, the Most High does not live in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says:
49 " ‘Heaven is my throne,
and the earth is my footstool.
What kind of house will you build for me?
says the Lord.
Or where will my resting place be?
50 Has not my hand made all these things?’ [l]
Observation: If you have the Spirit of God with you, then every place where you are is holy ground.
Application: God doesn’t dwell exclusively in the most holy hidden places of the temple. Because of Jesus and because He sent The Holy Spirit to be with us and dwell within our hearts, God’s temple is now our bodies and everywhere we are becomes a holy place.
Every inch of the earth is part of God’s creation, and everywhere that He resides is a holy place. Wherever you go, you can see God. In the Gnostic Gospel of Thomas, Jesus says "Split a piece of wood, and I am there. Lift up the stone, and you will find me there." As you move about your day, think about how every inch of creation is holy ground. God is within it all and wants you and I to bless the earth and treat it as a holy place.
I’m not trying to be politically correct, or go on an environmental rampart but, if we all thought about this more often we could make the world a more pleasant place to be. Pick up a piece of garbage that you see lying on the ground and put it in a trash can, instead of throwing that drink container out the window, wait and put it where it belongs, do what you can and think of every place as holy and sacred.
If we really thought about God being in every area, we would treat our earth differently than we do. It is more than a place for us to use and profit from, it is God’s own creation and deserves our respect.
Prayer: God of all Creation,
Thank you for the gift of the earth, and thank you for every tree, for every blade of grass, and for every stone. Thank you for being in every place that I am and help me to recognize your presence in it all.
