Scripture: Luke 17:
20 Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst."
Observation: We are constantly looking for a coming of God’s kingdom upon the earth, but Jesus says here, (paraphrase) "the kingdom isn’t coming, it’s already here, it’s not something that you can look at or point to, because it is within you."
Application: In order to reach the kingdom of God we don’t have to make a pilgrimage or help in bringing certain signs or prophecies to pass so that it can come. In order to reach the kingdom of God and see it come in our lives we have to change within. "The kingdom of God is in your midst."
Don’t search for the kingdom by trying to change mankind or improve the world, these things are vanity. By changing ourselves, by looking within, by accepting Gods love for ourselves, then showing it to others these things happen. The change of mankind and improvement of the world are not accomplished by point our fingers at others, but rather from a change within our own hearts, they are the fruits of our repentance and submission to God.
When will the kingdom come? It is available to you now!
Prayer: Father of The Kingdom,
Grant me the spiritual maturity to look within for the changes that I desire to see in others. Help me to search my own heart and understand that it is from there that true change is made and only there is it a valid change that can affect the world. Forgive me when I try to hard to change others and neglect the condition of my own soul.
