What Business Are You In?

Scripture: Luke 2:

49 And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”

Ezekiel 47,48; Luke 2 – Passage Lookup – Today’s New International Version – BibleGateway.com

Observation:  No matter what you do for a living, you are called to be about your Heavenly Fathers business.

Application: Just because you don’t work full time for the church, doesn’t mean that you don’t work full time for God.  No matter what your official job is, God has put you there for a reason.  It may have taken you years of training to be able to do what you do, your work may be highly skilled and specialized for a specific purpose but I’m telling you that God has a higher purpose in mind.  Everything we do should be done for The Father!

You might think, "this doesn’t apply to me, I don’t have any opportunities to witness in my work environment."  That may be partially true depending on what kind of work you do, but I am willing to bet that at some point during your normal work routine that you come in contact with someone.  Even if you don’t have much social interaction during work hours, you may be able to make a positive impact on someone during a break or during lunch, before or after work starts and ends, or perhaps even on the way to or from work.  Ask God to show you how He wants to use you in your work environment and I can promise you He will respond. The answer you get may not be what you were expecting, but if you open yourself up to be used by God, He will not refuse.

Prayer: Our Father,

Who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come!  Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day, our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.

Amen
