Prepare The Way

 Scripture: Luke 1:

76 And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High;
       for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him,

77 to give his people the knowledge of salvation
       through the forgiveness of their sins,

78 because of the tender mercy of our God,
       by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven

79 to shine on those living in darkness
       and in the shadow of death,
       to guide our feet into the path of peace."

Ezekiel 45,46; Luke 1 – Passage Lookup – Today’s New International Version – BibleGateway.com

Observation:  Just as John’s calling was to prepare the way for God’s Son, so the church is called to do the same today.

Application: Repent and be baptized for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.  This is the message that John declared.  The time is at hand to get right with God and it’s our job to prepare those whom God is calling for the arrival of The Son.  Just as the sun shines light on the darkness of the world, so does The Son shine light on the darkness of our sin.

The kingdom of heaven is here, not far away in the future but upon us and the time is near for the return of our King.  Who do you know that needs to hear the message of love and grace that is in Jesus Christ our Lord?  Who do you know who is living in the darkness and needs the illumination of God’s Son to shine in their lives?  The time is short, and we are His witnesses.  Prepare the way, Jesus is near.

Prayer: Father,

Thank you for your love and grace.  Please forgive me when I fail to pursue my calling with my whole heart and renew in me the desire, determination and dedication that I need to accomplish what you have sent me to do.  Let all of us go forth each day with a mission of reaching out in love to those who need to hear the message of your salvation though the blood of Jesus.

Love Michael
