He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands

Scripture: Jeremiah 51:

15 "He made the earth by his power;
       he founded the world by his wisdom
       and stretched out the heavens by his understanding.

16 When he thunders, the waters in the heavens roar;
       he makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth.
       He sends lightning with the rain
       and brings out the wind from his storehouses.

Observation:  God commands all things and all peoples in the purpose of accomplishing His will.

Application: This chapter is a long prophecy of the coming destruction of Babylon.  Jeremiah had warned Israel of the coming captivity in Babylon that they must endure because of their disobedience and irreverence to the LORD, and the prophecies had come true.  Jerusalem had fallen into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar, many had been carried away and some were left behind.  Now it is time for God to restore His people and bring the captives home, Babylon’s time had come. Although Babylon was not a nation that respected God, he had given them victory over His people, but their victory was short lived because the restoration of Israel was part of God’s purpose all along.

This scripture gives me a lesson today in that even though God may allow turmoil and troubles to come into our lives, I know that He will not forsake us.  We may have lessons that we need to learn from the calamities we face and although God will allow us to suffer for a little while, once his purpose in the suffering is accomplished (we turn back to Him, we learn to forgive, we grow spiritually in the direction He desires) He is quick to restore His people.

The whole world belongs to God, and everything and everyone in it are subject to His desires.  Even the parts of life that we can not control, and the parts that hurt us are used by God to bring us into a closer walk with Him.  I can understand why James said “Count it all Joy when you fall into diverse temptations.” James 1:2-4 Just because God allows us to face hardships doesn’t mean that He has abandoned us, it only means that He is moving us forward somehow, we may not understand it but God knows what He’s doing.  He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands.

Prayer: God of The Whole World,

Thank you for being in control of all things and for being involved in every situation I face in my life.  Grant me the serenity of knowing that there is nothing you are unaware of nor anything that you can not control.

Love Michael
