Scripture: John 11:
25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?"
Observation: Faith is what matters the most.
Application: There are many different views about what it takes to be saved. For some salvation only occurs after one is baptized, some say it happens when a prayer of confession and submission is offered from the heart, for others only after an evidence of the indwelling of The Holy Spirit can one consider themselves saved. Some believe that no matter what kind of life you’ve led, and no matter what you’ve done, if you fall away or backslide then you were never truly saved at all. Different denominations and faiths have developed various formulas that must be adhered to in order to obtain a certainty of salvation.
Jesus made it very simple. Believe in me and you will live. Have faith in God and the rest will fall into place. Faith is the path to salvation, it’s not doctrine and it’s not ritual that saves us, it’s faith. This is not to say that baptism, communion, and living a holy life are not important because those things increase our faith and are often the means by which we come to a saving relationship. But even without all the prescribed methods of obtaining favor with God, faith alone is what matters the most.
Thank you for Jesus. Thank you for your grace and love. Please help me to live a life of faith and continue to increase my trust and belief in you as the author and finisher of my life.
