Scripture: Isaiah 9:
6 For a child is born to us,
a son is given to us.
The government will rest on his shoulders.
And he will be called:
Wonderful Counselor,[d] Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 His government and its peace
will never end.
He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David
for all eternity.
The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies
will make this happen!
Observation: We are in store for a wonderful age of peace and unity that the world has never known.
Application: This prophecy from Isaiah is often quoted around Christmas time because it reminds us of the birth of Jesus and how the coming of the messiah had been awaited for so long. What we sometimes fail to see in these words is that only the birth part has been fulfilled. The part of the messiah governing and reigning from David’s throne has not yet taken place. We still await the second coming of Christ so that he may establish this government of peace, fairness and justice that will last forever. And what a wonderful time we are looking forward to.
Many people today are interested in the apocalyptic writings of the Bible and various other faith traditions and the focus is on the coming destruction and the turbulent times ahead. But we should be looking to those things only as a herald of the new coming age of peace that Christ is to establish as King. There is hope for the future, the world is not coming to an end. There may be difficult times in between now and then but when all is said and done, Christ will reign and we will be in a wonderful new age of peace and love.
Before Christ, God’s people were burdened by their sins and required to constantly make sacrifice in the temple to atone for themselves and their children. When Immanuel came and took our sins upon Himself and made the ultimate sacrifice for us, we began a new age of grace that we still live in. We can now freely and easily accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and His sacrifice covers us and gives us a right standing with God. In the coming age Christ will return to create an even greater era where the global conflicts and turmoil’s will be put to rest. It will be an age where all can clearly see that Jesus is King, every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that He is Lord.
I believe that we are living in an exciting time, and we may be privileged to witness the dawning of the new age of Christ during our lifetimes. Look up Christians, Christ will come again!
Prayer: Lord God Almighty Jehovah,
I thank you for Your Son Jesus! I thank you for the sacrifice He made on the cross for us, and I thank you for the age of grace that we are living in now because of that atoning work. I also praise you for the age that is approaching, and the time of peace and love that will come when Christ returns to establish His kingdom on the earth. May Your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven!
Yield: I give up dreads I may have about the future, and look forward to the hope of a new age established by Christ where we may experience His power and love first hand.
