Scripture: Colossians 4:
1 Masters, provide your slaves with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven.
Observation: No matter what your position in this life, when we stand before God, we are all on the same ground.
Application: The opening words of the United States Declaration of Independence says, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal…” I have often wonder about this, because as you look at the positions and opportunities afforded to all men, there is much inequality that can easily be seen. Some men are born into lives of ease and comfort, some are born into hardship and lack. Some men are blessed with great intelligence, and some are never going to be capable of understanding as others do. Are we truly created equal?
Even though it seems that there are great differences in us, and that equality is not easily found in this life, when we stand before the living God, we are all on the same level. When we are before our Master who is in heaven as Paul mentioned in our scripture, the king is no better than the beggar.
While we are here in this life, we need to learn to look past our inequalities and differences, we should treat all with equal respect and love, and value because God values us all the same.
Prayer: God of us all,
Help me to value each person as much as the next and not to put one above the other. Help me to see past social status, race, education and wealth to see the worth of every one of your creation as you do.
Yield: I surrender my measuring rod.
