Scripture Mark 12
32 “Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. 33 To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
God is not looking for a religious group, He’s looking for a relationship group.
Love God, and Love each other – these are the two great commandments. Within these two commands of Jesus, the entire heart of the law of Moses is fullfilled. This is what Jesus meant when He said, I came not to destroy the law but to fullfill it. He brought us a better way than the sacrifices and rituals. Those trappings of religion were not enough to save us, it is only through relationship that we can truly experience God.
The temple was God near us, but for Him it wasn’t enough. So Jesus came to bring God out of the temple of Jerusalem, and into the temple not made with hands, but within His children. Jesus tore the veil that separated God from His people, and because of Him, we are free to give ourselves fully to God.
We don’t have to see Him as some big grandfather thats far away. He is within, around, and through us as the branches cannot be separated from the vine, neither can we be separted from Him, lest we wither and die.
Abba, Help me to be in relationship with you. Help me each day to seek to grow closer to you, and to give over all of myself to you. Help me to serve you by serving my neighbor and love you by loving them.
I give up religion and seek relationship
