Scripture Mark 8:
34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 35 For whoever wants to save their life b]”>[b] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. 36 What good is it for you to gain the whole world, yet forfeit your soul? 37 Or what can you give in exchange for your soul? 38 If any of you are ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of you when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
Our most important task is not to “find ourselves,” but rather to “find Jesus.”
We are all on a journey, some say its a journey of self discovery, but the Bible teaches something different. We are not here to find that we are the masters of our own destiny or that our higher self is where we find God. God’s Spirit indeed resides within the hearts of His children, but it is not our higher self, it is God!
There is a power higher than me and you, He is our Creator, He is our Heavenly Father, He is our Savior, He is our Comforter, He is our Teacher, but He is not us. Whoever can not nail their old selves to the cross and die, so that the new self can be born in Christ Jesus, has not found the Father, but rather some false God that we have created.
Father help me to take up my cross and follow You! Help me to die to my old life and live only for you in the newness of life that is everlasting. I praise you for who you are, and for who you are molding me to be.
I give up my life, I turn it over to you Lord! Give me new life, and let me live it totally for you!
