Scripture Acts 24
14 However, I admit that I worship the God of our ancestors as a follower of the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets, 15 and I have the same hope in God as these people themselves have, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. 16 So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and all people.
The early Christians were called “followers of the Way,” to describe their calling – we also today are called to be followers of “the Way.”
“The Way”as early Christians were deemed referred to a Scripture from the old Testament.
The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
This began with John the Baptist crying out from the desert wilderness in his ministry proclaiming that the Kingdom of Heaven was “At Hand!” But culminated when the one who’s paths had been made strait said to the Roman governor – I am “The Way,” in a much more profound and meaningful statement. Jesus sent out his disciples in a very evangelistic manner to spread the gospel, proclaim healing to the sick, and baptise the world in His name.
Today we are still followers of “The Way,” and our mission has not changed from that of John the Baptist. We are still called to prepare the way of the Lord and make His paths straight. He came two thousand years ago as a lamb, but when He returns this time, He will return as the Lion. Prepare the people O ye Christians, Tell them of the Son that is returning – Help the blind to see that they are in need of a savior and set the captives free with the redemption that is found in Christ Jesus. Prepare ye “The Way!”
Father help me to fervenetly spread the gospel news of “The Way.” Help me to develop a true passion for winning lost souls to Christ and grant me the opportunity each day to share your love and mercy with someone who needs to know you in a more personal way.
I give up My Way – and submit to follow The Way – The Truth – and The Life which is found in Christ Jesus.
