Scripture Acts 17
24“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. 25And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. 26From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. 27God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’
When we start seeking the true God, we find that we don’t have to go very far.
There is a place within us all that seems empty and void, and it can only be filled by a relationship with God the Father. Those who try to fill it with the world will never be satisfied. This is the very thing that Jesus told the woman at the well outside of Samaria – (my paraphrase) “if you were to ask me I would have given you living water, and you would never thirst again!”
Paul preached to the logical people of Athens that God is among them, and has loved them enough to reach down and become one of us, and now is never far from us.
We need to be aware that although sometimes we feel we have to seek and search for God, and we may even feel that he is “Unknown” all we have to do is look around us, and look within us, He is God who made the world and everything in it – the Lord of heaven and earth – and although we continue to build bigger and more lavish sanctuaries, where God really lives is in our hearts!
Father help me to know you in a more personal way, help me to see that you are closer to me than the air I’m breathing. Let me feel and experience your presence in my life in a new and powerful way.
I Yield to any searching for God somewhere “Out There.” I submit to the fact that God is somewhere “In Here.”
