Scripture Acts 14:
19Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead. 20But after the disciples had gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city. The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.
The Mind of the Majority is fickle and easily turned.
When Paul and Barnabas came into Lystra and Derbe they were worshiped as gods because of the the signs and wonders they were able to do, but within a very short time, the same ones who worshiped, cast stones, and drove them out of the town. The Mind of the majority was easily swayed to the voiced opinions of a few who seemed to have authority.
We have to be careful today not to get caught up in the mind of the majority. We too without realizing it can be swept away in the crowd and caused to let down our guards, relax our principles or even go against our faith.
I’m not saying don’t be open minded. Yes BE open minded, but don’t be fooled. Don’t be dragged along just because this is what everyone else says.
In our world today I so often see people getting swept up in masively forwarded E-mails that attack this thing or that thing. Be careful and don’t let the crowd control your values. The crowd is easily swayed.
Father keep my eyes focused on YOU rather than the winds and waves that crash around me. Keep my heart set on Your will rather than the path which the accepted majority leads me on.
I yield my desire to be accepted by the crowd.
