Scripture Acts 10:
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.
God shows no favoritism.
It is so important that we remember and realize that it is not by anything we are able to do that we are accepted by God. It is a gift, and it is extended to all. Peter (and most of the Jews of his day) thought they had the upper hand spiritually and that they were favored above all the earth. And even though we know that God chose Israel in the Old Testament days, we also know that Jesus taught us that we are ALL God’s children and that He loves us without favor.
So its not too hard for us as Modern day American Christians to accept this – that we as Gentiles are loved as much as Jews by God – because we are the Gentiles. BUT I think that we to have a similar obstical in our understanding to overcome and that is that even those we would consider “not as worthy” of God’s love – are none the less loved equally by God.
Perhaps for us it is not a matter of race, but more of a social status, or social understanding of certain groups, lifestyles, or belief systems. No matter what – we are Loved by God and He desires that we each come into a closer, truer, fuller relationship with Him.
Father please help me to understand that each face I see, is a face that you love, that you created, and that is your child. Help me to minister to and love each one as a worship to you!
I give up the notion that I am loved more than any other of God’s children.
